Smart Escape Fire

Smart Escape Fire is the variant of the SE System that responds to active fires in a building and serves to streamline the evacuation process.

The core philosophy behind Smart Escape Fire is to guide building occupants out of the building along the safest path rather than the quickest. The safest and quickest routes are often one and the same, but this is not always the case, and SE Fire will ensure that building occupants always make the safest possible decision. To further those ends, the SE System will also mitigate congestion in hallways and at doorways to ensure the evacuation goes as smoothly as possible. SE Fire is intended to replace and improve upon pre-planned evacuation routes. This reduces, if not eliminates, the human decision-making process, which is often unreliable in a high-stakes, high-stress situation such as a fire.

The operation of SE Fire is very simple: When the fire alarm goes off, the SE System will also trigger and engage SE Fire. The SE System will interface with the fire alarm system to get as much information as possible. Using the information on-hand, SE Fire will trigger the SE System indicators throughout the corridors of the building. A runway effect of green lights will guide building occupants out of the building, while solid red lights serve as a warning that a path is too slow and/or unsafe. The red lights also serve a secondary purpose of guiding first responders to the location of the fire.

Smart Escape Fire is NOT a replacement for the existing fire alarm system and is an auxiliary system. SE Fire is not intended to alert building occupants to a fire, nor does it have the capability to detect a fire. SE Fire is integrated directly into the existing Fire Alarm Control Unit of the fire alarm system, and in order for SE Fire to function at full functionality it is recommended that the fire alarm system be an addressable system.
